The Klaxo Radio Hour

The Klaxo Radio Hour is an interactive audio drama that takes place inside a haunted radio. There's also something sinister lurking on the dead channels, waiting to be discovered.

The Klaxo Radio Hour plays a lost episode of a fictional radio show, "Kat Keene: Investigator,” but one that seems strangely aware of the audience listening. Not only can the listeners tune the radio dial to control what happens next, half the game hides on seemingly dead channels the game does not explicitly draw attention to. The metaphor of the radio provides room for exploration, beyond simple branching narrative. Additionally, it suggests a collective listening experience that leads to cooperative social play, even in the mobile version of the game, which subverts the traditional role of the platform.

The Klaxo Radio Hour was created as an interactive installation, written and constructed by Martzi Campos and Jesse Vigil. After designing and programming the scripting system for the original radio, I took the lead on developing a digital version for PC and mobile. The radio installation has been featured by IndieCade, alt.ctrl.GDC, the Electronic Literature Organization, and Indie Megabooth. The team is currently working on an update that will make the digital game accessible to blind, low-vision, and hard-of-hearing players.
